As a Japanese fine jeweler, Jewelry Haruzen’s core principles are deeply rooted in philosophical perspectives that one might think of as distinctly and uniquely Japanese.

One such perspective is the concept of mottainai. At its crux, the term mottainai urges us to respect the intrinsic worth of an object that has already been crafted, and to embrace the history and continued utility of the object beyond the immediacy of an individual’s present desire for it. By this consideration, the historicity of a piece of jewelry becomes an intrinsic part of its beauty that calls for its own modes of appreciation.

Jewelry Haruzen purchases and authenticates pre-owned or estate jewelry from our business partners and customers. The branded jewelry that we purchase are polished and restored to their original condition in respect for the jewelry houses whence they came.

The other fine jewelry pieces that we acquire, however, undergo a different process.

At Haruzen, we don’t let the story of these fine jewelry items end there, as mere second-hand jewelry. With our master craftsmen, we re-design, re-make, and re-create fresh pieces of jewelry from these gems that we have collected, and in doing so introduce a sparkling newness into jewelry that have endured beyond their previous owners’ need for them.

We embrace the notion of thoughtful reuse, where each piece of jewelry is deliberately and consciously made timeless, so that their beauty is set to endure for generations to come.
